Virus Research provides a means of fast publication for original papers on fundamental research in virology. Contributions on new developments concerning virus structure, replication, pathogenesis and evolution are encouraged. These include reports describing virus morphology, the function and antigenic analysis of virus structural components, virus genome structure and expression, analysis on virus replication processes, virus evolution in connection with antiviral interventions, effects of viruses on their host cells, particularly on the immune system, and the pathogenesis of virus infections, including oncogene activation and transduction.

Virus Research 为病毒学基础研究的原创论文提供了一种快速发表的方法。鼓励对有关病毒结构、复制、发病机制和进化的新发展做出贡献。其中包括描述病毒形态、病毒结构成分的功能和抗原分析、病毒基因组结构和表达、病毒复制过程分析、与抗病毒干预相关的病毒进化、病毒对其宿主细胞，特别是对免疫系统的影响的报告，以及病毒感染的发病机制，包括癌基因的激活和转导。
